After completing my Senior Experience, my last assignment of high school, I feel like I have learned more about myself than I ever could have in any classroom. In the end, I think this whole project was more than just reporting on a chosen topic. It was more of a test of how you can carry out an assignment in the real world, and stand on your own two feet without the help of teachers or parents. It was like one last preparation for college life.
This senior project has been one of the best experiences I have ever had in high school. I spent the last month with two of my close friends visiting ballparks up and down the east coast, ranging from the largest and 3rd oldest park in the major leagues (Yankee Stadium), to a minor league AA park in Reading PA; it doesn't get much better than that. Instead of just watching all of the games on ESPN, and then again on Sports Center, I got to be there live. I got to feel the incredible history of each stadium, like being in Yankee Stadium, the 3rd oldest, opening in 1923, and the largest stadium in the major leagues. Yankee Stadium was home to some of baseball's greats, like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Joe DiMaggio, and many more. I got to experience for myself some of the terrific architecture that these guys experienced so many a half a century ago. During the past month, I got to be a real baseball connoisseur. By researching each stadium I visited on the Internet, I really had a greater appreciation for it once I was there. One website in particular that I got a lot of useful information from was www.ballparks.com. The creator of that site has been doing for many years, what I did in the past month. He visited all of the major league stadiums and wrote litte reports on each. Like him, I got to report on many magnificent stadiums, while traveling to great cities, all for a school project--if only there was job like that in the real world.
Throughout this experience, I have had some scary times, and some exhilarating times, and I wouldnt trade it for the world. Not only did I learn so much about ballparks' architecture, history, and overall uniqueness, I have also learned a lot about myself, and how well I deal in certain situations. This Senior Experience was a great way to wrap up my high school career, and Ill never forget it.
